Healthy and luscious hair can make a huge difference in how you look and feel. However, achieving that perfect hair can be challenging, especially with the abundance of hair care products and treatments available in the market.

The good news is that there are many things you can do at home to improve the health of your hair.

Here are ten things you can do to keep your hair healthy, shiny, and beautiful:

  1. Wash your hair regularly, but not too often - washing your hair too frequently can strip your scalp of its natural oils, leading to dryness and breakage. Aim to wash your hair every two to three days, depending on your hair type. My hair is naturally curly, not thick and is coloured, washing every three works for me. I will always use a moisturising shampoo and conditioner or mask, as my curls dictate this, thirsty buggers 😂

  2. Make sure to use a shampoo and conditioner/mask that works with your hair type, if you are unsure what you need ask your stylist. I will alternate between Moroccanoil Hydration & Moisture Repair or Actyva Nuova Fibra or Disciplina.

  3. Condition your hair - after shampooing, apply a conditioner to your hair. A conditioner can help to restore moisture and make your hair more manageable. Make sure to rinse your hair thoroughly to avoid any product buildup (this is super important)

  4. Use a wide-toothed comb - after showering, to gently detangle your hair. This will prevent breakage and minimize damage to your hair, or if you have curls like me, I use my 🖐️ as my comb and gently work the conditioner through, detangling as I go

  5. Limit the use of heat styling tools - excessive use of heat styling tools, such as flat irons and curling irons, can damage your hair. If you must use these tools, use them on low heat and as your mother would have told you "always use a protection" 😉 We love the Actyva Bellesserre Heat Protection, really good at what it does, will not weigh your hair down and really affordable also

  6. Use a hair mask regularly, how often depends on your hair condition. If your hair is very processed, I would suggest using a bond building treatment every second wash. I particularly like the K18 Leave In Molecular Repair Treatment for its ease of use and fab benefits.

  7. Avoid tight hairstyles - hairstyles that pull your hair tightly, such as tight braids and ponytails, can cause hair breakage and hair loss. Opt for looser hairstyles that do not pull on your hair. Always use soft scrunchies or similar when tying your hair back

  8. Protect your hair from the sun - exposure to the sun's UV rays can damage your hair and cause it to become dry and brittle. Wear a hat or scarf to protect your hair when you are out in the sun, make it a fashion statement.

  9. Eat a healthy diet - a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals can help to improve the health of your hair. Include foods such as salmon, nuts, and leafy greens in your diet to promote healthy hair growth.

  10. Get regular trims - regular trims can help to prevent split ends and promote healthy hair growth. Aim to get a trim every six to eight weeks, depending on your hair's length and condition.

In conclusion, taking care of your hair does not have to be complicated or expensive. By following these simple tips, you can improve the health of your hair and achieve that perfect hair you've always wanted. Remember, healthy hair is beautiful hair!
